Gerard Baker (Times Online) Commits Blasphemy

OK, call out the Obama Ministry for the Promotion of Worshipful Adoration and Suppression of Snark - we need a fatwah on Gerard Baker of the Times. He dares to mock The One in a hilarious column in today's paper. Death to the infidel!

He ventured forth to bring light to the world
The anointed one's pilgrimage to the Holy Land is a miracle in action - and a blessing to all his faithful followers

And it came to pass, in the eighth year of the reign of the evil Bush the Younger (The Ignorant), when the whole land from the Arabian desert to the shores of the Great Lakes had been laid barren, that a Child appeared in the wilderness.

The Child was blessed in looks and intellect. Scion of a simple family, offspring of a miraculous union, grandson of a typical white person and an African peasant. And yea, as he grew, the Child walked in the path of righteousness, with only the occasional detour into the odd weed and a little blow.

When he was twelve years old, they found him in the temple in the City of Chicago, arguing the finer points of community organisation with the Prophet Jeremiah and the Elders. And the Elders were astonished at what they heard and said among themselves: "Verily, who is this Child that he opens our hearts and minds to the audacity of hope?"

Oh, it gets worse ;-)

In the great Battles of Caucus and Primary he smote the conniving Hillary, wife of the deposed King Bill the Priapic and their barbarian hordes of Working Class Whites.

As word spread throughout the land about the Child's wondrous works, peoples from all over flocked to hear him; Hittites and Abbasids; Obamacons and McCainiacs; Cameroonians and Blairites.

And they told of strange and wondrous things that greeted the news of the Child's journey. Around the world, global temperatures began to decline, and the ocean levels fell and the great warming was over.

The Great Prophet Algore of Nobel and Oscar, who many had believed was the anointed one, smiled and told his followers that the Child was the one generations had been waiting for.

And there were other wonderful signs. In the city of the Street at the Wall, spreads on interbank interest rates dropped like manna from Heaven and rates on credit default swaps fell to the ground as dead birds from the almond tree, and the people who had lived in foreclosure were able to borrow again.

Black gold gushed from the ground at prices well below $140 per barrel. In hospitals across the land the sick were cured even though they were uninsured. And all because the Child had pronounced it.

And this is the testimony of one who speaks the truth and bears witness to the truth so that you might believe. And he knows it is the truth for he saw it all on CNN and the BBC and in the pages of The New York Times.
If you read the whole thing, you'll go blind ;-)

For those who can't read tags.  SNARK, Humor, Joke, funny

I'm visiting my parents later on tonight: they have an errant branch that wants sawing.  I get to cut it down and then hack at it with an axe.

Then, more gardening.

Re: Gerard Baker Commits Blasphemy (1.50 / 4)

What makes you think it was a criticism of McCain that got you banned?  Tell, what's the comment that you think got you banned?  I don't know why having questions for and about Barack and wondering what he'd do if elected, and not being sure (is anyone sure?) means you can't say something unkind about John.  It's not pro-John site, it's a pro reform site, meant to influence in the direction of accountability and clarity.   It's a site for those who wish Hillary were our candidate, and who want to influence Barack to be more like her, to the extent possible.  We also want a fair and conventional convention, so that it's possible she could win it, even if that possibility is so remote as to make it quite unlikely.  Possible is all that's asked, not plausible.

I'd like unity, and for me that means playing by the rules the way they were when the 'game' started.  If it's fair, that will bring most of us behind Barack.  If it isn't fair, that may make reform of the party more important for some than who wins.

Re: Gerard Baker Commits Blasphemy (1.20 / 5)

you have to go to the blogs that are focused on beating pugs, there you'll find many. If you go to a blog that is trying to reform the Democratic Party, you won't find diaries about McCain, either for or against him.

there is a report now, on how both Barack and John have followed Hillary, Barack presenting himself as inevitable and leaderly, John complaining about how the media is only interested in Barack and is ignoring him, and McCain running on experience.  Too bad for him that it's the wrong experience.

One thing still is clear, with both it's not about issues.

meanwhile my girl is back in the Senate, working, and speaking about issues. That's one place, specific plans, and proposed solutions, where neither is following her in. But, there is still time. She may not be a presidential contender, but she's still a role model.

Re: Gerard Baker Commits Blasphemy (2.00 / 4)

I found two in support of McCain, at least in the past week and a half:

http://alegrescorner.soapblox.net/showDi ary.do?diaryId=297
About how women over 65 previously supported Democrats, but now they're supporting McCain.  This is because they intuitively know that they can trust McCain.

http://alegrescorner.soapblox.net/showDi ary.do?diaryId=246
This one is much more straightforward.  In a contest between Obama and McCain, McCain is the only viable choice.  This one was actually frontpaged by site admins.

Anna Shane is either lying or doesn't know about her own website.

If you study abhorant brain patterns, they actually can look at something RED and think it's blue.

She actually THINKS they are all about celebrating Hillary and womens issue, but, as you say, 90% of it is smearing Obama.

And, think about this?

This statement is the LITERAL defination of cognotive dissonace:

"I am a feminist, and because of the sexist treatment Hillary Clinton recieved, I am going to vote for the party that literally has codified women as second class citizens in their platform for 3 decades"

This is like "My mom died of lung cancer from smoking, so I am sending the money she left me to the tabacco defense fund"

the first link you put up is not pro-McLame at all, it does discuss a POLL that seems to show that result but it does not glorify McSame and in fact goes on to say how he is "coy" about how he would "fix" SS and talks about Obama's actual plan for it.

The 2nd one is more anti-BHO then pro-John although the difference is not enough to say your characterization is wrong.

But it does show that you are not really reading the diaries before you post links, just the headlines.

For the defenders of PUMA's on this site (2.00 / 5)

to constantly fly the flag of free speech and then ban anyone with a singular thought out of lockstep with their own (on their own sites), is just shameful.

Whether banning them for criticising McCain or merely respectfully disagreeing with their POV--the hypocrisy has been well established.

I don't suspect anyone will "come around" to supporting Obama when they wallow in the mire of constant hysterical attacks on our nominee.  Hell, if that was the only viewpoint I were able to access to I'd probably start believing that Obama was the comic book villain the PUMA's make him to be.  Anyone who paints the world in such vivid extremes is bound to be wrong.  The truth is rarely is good and evil to be found in this world, usually just some nebulous shade of gray.

Re: Gerard Baker (Times Online) Commits Blasphemy (2.00 / 13)

Actually, I know several Obama supporters, myself included, who thought this piece was funny.  But that fact sort of undercuts the whole point of this satire.  The idea of the Obama supporter as humorless and worshipful is not critiqued in most of these satires, or in this diarist's preemptive defense and accusation.  Rather this is where that idea exists.  And it exists primarily because it is perceived as potentially useful to those who want to defeat Obama politically, i.e. that he is an empty shell and his supporters deluded enthusiasts who have more in common with religious fanatics than engaged citizens in a democratic society.  What's funny about Baker's piece, this diary, and similar caricatures of Obama and his democratic supporters, is the desperation.  This is all you've got?  Come on.  How do I take you seriously as a considered and intelligent opposition?

On the other hand, what is sad is that this diarist and the milieu they represent have been reduced to parroting right wing rhetoric.  They can't even come up with their own.

Orginally thinking must be stamped out inside the echo chamber of the Big Kitty-ville.

It's too dangerous to have the supplicants actually THINK on their own, they might break through the cognative dissonance of ideas like

"I am an outrage feminist, so to punish the Democratic Party, I am going to vote for the party that has codified making women second class citizens in their party platform"

Might shatter their bizzaro reality, and they might come to whatever sense they have left.

Anyway, if you want to post a satirical piece on Hillary or McCain, I'm game.  It will be gone within seconds you know.

Re: Gerard Baker (Times Online) Commits Blasphemy (2.00 / 4)

Exactly.

Satirize just how GREAT McCain and the Republics are on womens issue's, and how they plan to undo the great harm to Hillary by continuing to undermine ever advance in law passed to help equality for women?

You know, to honor the great damage done to Hillary by repealing Roe, Griswald, Title IX, banning equal pay laws, making lawsuits against sexual harrasment illegal?

You know, the Feminist Agenda ALA The Republic Party?

Cause, it will make women SO MUCH STRONGER?

Pull themselves up by the bootstraps, and become part of the ownership society?

That sort of thing?

You know, tell the truth about the party these FEMINISTS are now members of?

Feminists and women are already backing Obama.  Women were split down the middle in the primary, and they're overwhelmingly democratic this year.

Don't bring up women's issues to PUMAs, because they couldn't care less.

There are lots of emotions involved. I am a Democrat and would vote for the Democratic nominee. unfortunately it will be Obama. I do not really believe that he deserves the nomination. I can seperate my emotions from my actions but it will never change how I feel about the "Blessed One".

Check this link...it quotes Senator Obama (2.00 / 2)

saying that his first name means ""one who is blessed by God".. It is common to have first names in Africa and Asian countries which refers to God or one blessed by God or related to angels. The link is related to a very discussion..

It's also common in America.  My first name means Follower of Christ and my middle name means my god is a vow but I'd much prefer to be called by my actual name.

But since Indydem is being purposely demeaning, I don't think he deserves such a thoughtful response.

Re: Gerard Baker (Times Online) Commits Blasphemy (2.00 / 2)

The only thing wrong about this article, imo, is that it's not particularly funny, but I gotta love the Brits for not taking the whole Jesus thing too seriously.  Anyone who hasn't read Phillip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" trilogy, and only knows about the story from that "Golden Compass" movie which came out several months ago, is totally forgiven for not knowing that it's one of the most anti-religious children's stories ever written (and it's beloved in the UK, it's as popular as Harry Potter).

The term blasphemy just doesn't mean the same thing there as it does here (and fist bumps for that!).

My guess is that they get caught up in a feedback loop and end up believing totally irrational things. Then they come here to enlighten us. They are so sure of themselves that they think anyone will be able to see the 'truth' of their latest offering.

The only truth in their offerings is the sad truth that they are a bunch of bitter, whiny, irrational losers.

A lot has been written about how to deal with the diaries and comments posted on here by PUMAs and assorted Obama-haters. I have a new suggestion. Instead of ignoring their diaries or posting about the weather or cooking, I suggest we start using those diaries as a place to ridicule them. That way if they come here to rec those diaries they are only reccing something that makes them look silly.

Ok, isnt this the guy that has a DNC job in his city in New Hampshire.

I swear I remember he made a racist attack against Obama, which caused him to disapear from this site till after the primaries.

I think some people even contacted the local DNC where he lived.

Not trying to trash the guy, but context is everything.   Im gonna search for that thread, but I remember right Jerome gave him a break and deleted it as some(not all) racist diaries are.

I am still shocked NH didnt get banned like Texas Darling did when she called Obama a "Spade"  but hey, Jerome let her dirty racist ass back here too.
